Kapiti Coast Car Run May 2022

The Kapiti Coast glistened in the morning sun as we converged on Q E 2 Tramway Park for a welcoming coffee and homemade cookies, thanks to Bronwyn.

Thirteen Lower North Island members followed in convoy along old state highway one to visit the “Kako ” chocolate factory at Paraparaumu. We were treated to an interesting talk by a staff member on the processes followed to produce Boutique and Gift chocolates.—Yes there was delightful tasting involved and the chance to purchase goodies from their shop.

We left carrying bags of chocolates to head for the lunch venue “Raumati Waterfront Cafe ” where we had the “Wolseley’s At The Beach ” line up in the car park being admired by fellow diners and beach strollers.
An early afternoon with appetites satisfied we took a slow rally through the streets of Paraparaumu, Waikanae, and onto a private car collection of ” a ‘Ford’ enthusiast.

He has restored all of his Fords from the ground up including making and sewing his own upholstery. His lineup includes 2 early model A’s,2 1940s Ford Mercury Coupes a Rover V8, an American Ford Falcon and 2 Honda Goldwing Motorcycles ( Luxury Palaces on wheels )
Upstairs the Ford enthusiast and his grandson have built a Model Railway City( 7mx 7m ). All buildings and landscapes are designed and built from scratch, with trains run by remote control. A most impressive sight.
Leaving the Ford enthusiast place we headed for the new expressway heading south for Waikanae to the home of Winton and Ruth Cleal, to socialise over a cuppa and afternoon tea.
